Title:
quicker log in

Area:
www.dreamwidth.org page, not logged in

Summary:
I'd like it if there was a thing that put a blinking marker in the first login field when I load up dreamwidth.org. If possible, the marker would have priority, so it would be there before the page has finished loading fully.

Description:
I think lj has that, if that helps any. My apologies if this is already suggested.

---

I like very much the idea that a person should be able to decide whether or not to receive entry comments at the time of sending the suggestion.

I am dubious that anonymizing the suggestions is as useful or appropriate. For one thing, suggestions which draw a lot of comment often draw many comments because the original poster clarifies in comments what they are actually suggesting, or because people responding to the suggestion are explaining what the software currently does and does not allow, and the suggester modifies their proposal in response to that additional information.

Also, I'm not convinced that it is inappropriate to judge/discuss suggestions in part based on what I know about people's expertise with programming or with using the LJ/DW software as opposed to other social media/social networking sites. Personally, I will adjust my vocabulary to take into account the OP's familiarity with the system, when discussing how and why I approve the suggestion.

I think you hit the wrong suggestion!

very fine idea. Dreamwidth doesn't mess with my login the way LJ does, but I could have cache problems here too. When I go to log in, I really want to have the process go as easily and quickly as possible.

I totally did. I'm trying to navigate firefox with just the keyboard, and I don't have everything down just yet.

So basically you want the page to set the focus on the username?

Because come to think of it, I don't think any of the user-admin pages have foci set for any of the pages -- and it drives me crazy when I'm trying to navigate with any amount of speed, for having to click with mouse before then tabbing.

If I'm reading your meaning right, then +1 from me and +infinity if this could be done on all pages with any kind of form.

I don't like having the focus set on a textbox, because it makes navigating a website more difficult for me. In my browser I can click the tab key to jump to the account name box, but if the focus were already on the box then I would have to click with the mouse before being able to scroll. I don't know why it's the opposite for [personal profile] kaigou, but -1 from me, and -infinity for doing it on all pages with any kind of form.

Me, too. I already have focus issues with scrolling because something about the DW styles require me to get focus outside the central "column" on most pages to scroll it. But at least when the page loads I can keyboard scroll.

I'm tentatively in favor of this for the login page, but I *really* don't want it for all forms in all places.

Really? I have that scroll-lock problem with FB, but not DW that I can recall.

I run into the same thing, and it happens in Ffx2 and in Safari -- if I'm in a form, I can't page-down until I click out of the form, which kinda defeats the purpose of using the keyboard. On the other hand, if I'm in Safari* and hit "tab", it goes nowhere -- there's no focus at all. I have to click on the username box anyway, which drives me crazy sometimes for tabbing, and expecting it to autofill and nothing happens at all.

*Err, that's probably not clear: I meant, if I'm in Safari on the DW backend page that says I need to login, there's no focus and the tabbing doesn't get me focus, either. Bizarre.
