Add Additional Navigational Links to Inbox and Pages

Title:
Add Additional Navigational Links to Inbox and Pages

Area:
Styles?

Summary:
Add additional instances of action and navigation links to the top of pages -- and the Inbox -- where these items only appear at the bottom.

Description:
At the moment, the navigational/action links: "Reply | Add to reading list | Mark as Spam" exist only at the end of the new comment/PM which appears in your Inbox. If the original comment/PM is very long, or [in the case of a PM] contains several previous PM exchanges, you have to scroll down a very large number of screens to get at these links, which is frustrating when all you want to do is "Reply" to a brief new comment at the top of the thread [or navigate elsewhere in the journal].

In journals, the nav buttons for things like "Go Earlier" and "Go To Top" [which you might want to use before you reach the bottom of the page, if there are a lot of entries], are only available at the bottom of the journal. Adding instances of them at the top as well would make it easier to Get Places, especially if you (a) have mobility issues which make scrolling difficult (b) have visual issues which make "scroll down to the bottom as fast as lightning" problematic. And zippy scrolling doesn't address the specific navigational problem of the Inbox, since if you zip to the bottom of your screen, you might blow right past the links at the bottom of the specific message that you're looking for.

Viewing x last active entries in a community

Title:
Viewing x last active entries in a community

Area:
Styles

Summary:
A new module that contains the last x entries that were commented on in a journal/community.

Description:
I saw this suggested on LiveJournal: http://community.livejournal.com/suggestions/950533.html and think it's a great idea.

I would like to have a module that can be added to a journal or a community in which the 'last x active' entries are shown - so the last ten entries that got a new comment. This is helpful for communities which sometimes get comments on older entries (fic challenges like dailyprompts, suggestion/help communities maybe).

This would be most helpful for communities, as for journals at least the journal owner gets an e-mail when a new comment gets posted, but a community moderator doesn't get one - you can't subscribe to 'any new comment in this community' and usually it's also not needed. But if people are trolling, you will never notice on older posts unless the poster of that entry tells you.

It can also help with spam detection, when that spam is posted to older entries. Since this is used on many blogging sites, I think it would be an added advantage for Dreamwidth.

As for the implementation, I think comments in a community are all stored on the same cluster and should be in one database, so it's a mySQL query based on the entryid and posting data.

Could be a paid community/user benefit, if needed/wanted.

(I am sorry if this is a bit muddled)

Organizing Memories by Default (date of post/date added)

Title:
Organizing Memories by Default (date of post/date added)

Area:
Memories

Summary:
An option to organize how you and others view your Memories by default.

Description:
Sometimes I forget to put a chapter of my Work In Progress into my Memories immediately. When I do put it in, it appears, by default, at the bottom, no matter how many chapters past it I may have gotten. (And we will not discuss having to re-add all the chapters I imported from LJ...) The work-around, to re-add things in the order you want them, is just way too painful for anything but at most a dozen entries. (Been there, done that.)

I'd like to have a preference for Memories that organizes it in one of four ways: Most Recently Dated First, Most Recently Dated Last, Most Recently Added First, Most Recently Added Last.

If only two options would be more feasible, then Most Recently Dated and Most Recently Added.

(Well, actually, *I'd* prefer it if the default were to sort by date (up or down, don't care), but I can understand that some people might want to look in their Memories according to when *they* found-and-Memoried-a-page, and not when that page was actually posted.)

This does cause a little more work on the customizing end, potentially, and thus more complexity. However, it allows creators to give people their archives and be assured that it will be in an understandable order -- or even one optimized to their audience, with new material appearing at the top (easier for beta-readers) or bottom (someone who posts mostly completed stories and wants Chapter 1 to be at the top). In the meantime, allowing sorting by Date Added allows people to dig up, "oh, that post, I know I saw it last month, so it should be near the top/bottom..."

But if you can only use one as default, with no customization, I beg you to change it to Date Posted instead of Date Added. It's driving me seriously nuts here.

Usability improvement for Next/Prev navigation

Title:
Usability improvement for Next/Prev navigation

Area:
site navigation

Summary:
When there is no next or previous entry, you get a mostly-blank landing page that simply says: "No Entry - There is no entry following this one.", etc Adding a link back to the community/journal would make this page less confusing.

Description:
Additional options for this landing page would be a link to the last entry you came from. This could also be useful for dealing with 'next' entries that are inaccessible due to filters, but those should probably just be bypassed, and thus that's a separate suggestion.

Option to get notified by email when you send a message

Title:
Option to get notified by email when you send a message

Area:
inbox

Summary:
Add an option to get email notifications of PMs you send.

Description:
It's possible to get email notifications both for when someone replies to your comment, and when you comment somewhere. You can get email notifications for someone sending you a PM, and PMs you send appear in the sent box in your inbox online, but there's no option to get emailed a copy when you send a PM. I'd find it useful, as I prefer to keep copies of all notifications in my email and clear out the entire inbox regularly.
