I'm agnostic about the suggestion, but I'm popping in to say that the default filter does work; I've been using one since about five seconds after reading filters went live. You have to name your filter Default View (with that exact spelling, spacing, and capitalization), and it will appear as your reading page. But once you've done that, there's then no way AFAIK to see your whole, unfiltered reading page, except by creating another filter that includes every journal you've subscribed to.
Maybe you knew this, and meant something more functional by "work." But fwiw, it works at least that much!
ETA: You know what else works? Closing your HTML tags, that's what works. Oops!
