This was previously suggested at http://dw-suggestions.dreamwidth.org/31862.html and rejected for being something that couldn't be implemented in a way that would be usable for all users (mobile devices in particular) and for being something that could be achieved through other means. I'm letting it through for rediscussion since it's been two years or so since the last discussion and somebody may have a good argument to overcome the problems!
