Option to not link google maps to location

Title:
Option to not link google maps to location

Area:
entries

Summary:
I want to write home, school, wherever as my location, but I do not want to have it linked to google maps.

Description:
Is there any way to make it so we can uncheck google mapping of the location entry; or, can paid accounts create their own custom box where they can enter in whatever they want (so if I wanted to write instead of Song, Mood, or Location, I could have my own custom current _____ text. (I have removed this suggestion since you should only have one request at a time in a post for clarity).

My 'with changes': I didn't vote for that part of the suggestion as I think it's another topic entirely.

I agree with the headline proposal: anything that increases the privacy options available, and allows people to live outside the corporate panopticon, has to be A Good Thing.

No opinion on the proposed additional post metadata; this enhancement deserves consideration on its own merits.

Agree with the privacy issue, not so keen on the metadata - at least not in this suggestion.

if I wanted to write instead of Song, Mood, or Location, I could have my own custom current _____ text

As someone who never posts current music or current mood (I think I've used mood once in the 7 years I've been on LJ/DW), you can simply change the text for the display of this on your journal.

I don't use the location field, so don't have an opinion on that.

As for the other part that was snuck into this one, I think it should be something dealt with separately.

I love this suggestion. I pretty much don't put location because I hate the Google maps linkup so hard. Trust me, I will work very hard to NEVER put a mappable location on my journal anyway, and stupid links to how Google interprets what I do type are annoying.

I'd love it if this wasn't the default. So many people on my flist enter "cute" text here - home, the bathroom, Starbucks, the backyard... - which is meaningless as a Gmaps query. Should be settable on or off (on the end of the person entering this text).

I like sticking postal codes in that field and having Google give a map of the area, so I'm sort of in favour of keeping the feature in some form.

I imagine this would be middling-hard, but maybe parse the contents of the field, and if it looks like a postal/zip code, address or city/state/country, link it, otherwise leave it unlinked.

Better yet, maybe make it two fields, with location-description and location-search lines: maybe I'd like to have the text say "Home" and Google (or whatever future map provider DW uses should Google be turfed) to go find "Albuquerque, NM", for instance. If the location-search line is empty, then no search.

I'm fine with just un-linking the location, period. No need to make it an option.
