Description:
Dreamwidth image hosting is a work in progress and will have major improvements down the road.

I think the file management area could stand a little bit of (I hope) low-developer-impact improvement to make it more usable before the major overhaul happens.

Currently the images are shown with just the image and some controls. It would be awesome to include details like a link to the entry that the image was originally posted into (and even more awesome to include links to the places the image has subsequently been into, for the use case where you upload the image in one entry and then create a second entry to actually share it), but failing that, I hope it would be easier to grab the time that the image was uploaded, to then be able to hunt it down manually.

Times should be in server time, and one can figure out from there what local date it would have landed on.

It's a sneaky little thingy. It's linked from http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=248, so it should be easier to find now that the FAQ's up.

Hee! I played with it as soon as it was announced in dw_news last summer...and promptly found a security bug in it...and then forgot about it almost as soon, because although it's nice that it's possible to upload via email, I'd really infinitely rather do it via web form. Fortunately, I was clever enough to have bookmarked the page at the time.

I think this is a really awesome suggestion, even though I haven't yet played with image uploading at all. And I approve of making small updates so that the overhaul is easier when it comes!

not that we have much image manipulation as yet, but it would be really nice to add an option for description/alt, so that once we DO have tools for plugging it into entries those tools can grab that default ALT text.

Having the upload timestamp recorded would be awesome!

Having links to entries the images/files (because I remember that this was conceived of for more than just images) are used in would be awesome as well, but I want to be very certain that those are available only on the edit page, and are not publicly available. Or, at least, like tags, do not appear to those without access to the posts in question.

Voted with changes to voice preference for using user's local time, but perhaps this isn't affecting what users see at this point, anyway, so that may be neither here nor there.
